Easy-read health check letter launched for people with learning disabilities

30/01/2018

Young people and adults with learning disabilities who need more health support are entitled to an annual health check. However, accessing services isn’t always easy, so we’ve been working with service users, the region’s CCGs and Durham County Council to reduce barriers to people having these health checks.

As part of this work, Paul James at Durham County Council devised an “easy read” health check invite letter, which has been shared with every GP practice in the county. We hope it will be used to help people with a learning disability access their health checks and reduce any anxieties they might have around doing so.

Read our other recommendations for increasing take-up of these health checks in our full report, based on the views of service users.
