Wards taking better care of people's hearing aids after calls to our team

Last year, our information and signposting team noticed a spate of calls from patients in University Hospital North Durham (UHND) complaining that hearing aids or dentures had been accidentally lost or thrown away on the wards.

We took this information to the patient experience team at County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust and one of the governors, Ken Davison, got straight to work to tackle the issue.

Ken championed investment in secure (ELI) boxes to keep dentures, glasses and hearing aids safe while people are in hospital. These are now being trialed in A&E, day surgery, theaters, care of the elderly and trauma wards at University Hospital North Durham and will hopefully be rolled out fully from there.

It's a great result for our signposting callers and shows it IS worth speaking up if you think a care service could, or should, be improved.

So, if you have a concern or a query do contact our team - your feedback can really help make a difference to others. Call us on 0800 304 7039.
