Help us reduce barriers to cervical screening
It is estimated that cervical screening (smear tests) prevents up to 75% of cervical cancers from developing* - however, 1 in 4 women aged 25-64 don’t attend for screening when they are invited. A recent survey suggests reasons for not attending nationally include embarrassment about body shape and difficulties making an appointment. But what about in County Durham?
At Healthwatch County Durham we want to enable as many women as possible to benefit from the cervical screening programme in County Durham – and that means removing whatever barriers are putting women off in this area specifically. Help us identify the barriers by completing our survey and/or sharing it with as many women in County Durham aged 25-64 as you can.
We’ll share your feedback with those in charge of the screening programme in County Durham and make recommendations about how screening can be made more accessible for women here. And of course we’ll keep you updated as our work progresses.
Remember – even if this doesn’t apply to you, please share the survey with as many women in County Durham as you can to help us try to reduce deaths from cervical cancer in County Durham.
The survey will be open until 19th February 2018.
