Offering GP's an independent view on services

GP practices are the frontline of health services, so it’s important they work well for everyone who needs them. That’s why we’re offering all GP practices in County Durham the opportunity for us to visit them and speak to patients independently about how they find their services. The idea is to identify areas of good practice that can be shared with GP surgeries county-wide as well as to pinpoint areas where patients would like to see changes or improvements.

During our Enter and View visits we gather patients’ views by chatting to them as they wait, so it is a very relaxed-feeling process. Silverdale Family Practice is one of the practices we have already worked with. They said our Enter and View visit was a great way to break down barriers and get an independent view of how their service was doing and that they would recommend it to other GPs.

We’ve already shared the feedback gathered on our previous Enter and View visits with all County Durham GPs. This feedback included that patients valued:

  • knowing they could have a same day appointment (even if it is over the phone)
  • flexibility and choice around seeing a particular GP
  • having a variety of contact opportunities (phone, letter, face-to-face)
  • empathy and professionalism of practice staff

Any GPs who are interested in requesting an Enter and View visit should contact Claire Cowell at claire.cowell@pcp.uk.net or 0191 378 7695.
