Enter and View Report - Ushaw Moor Surgery

This report looks at the findings from when our authorised representatives visited Ushaw Moor Surgery as ‘Enter and View’.

Our trained representatives went into Ushaw Moor Surgery on 11th May 2023 to get feedback from the patients using the doctors surgery. We carried out 11 individual interviews with patients. We also left surveys in the reception area prior to our visit and 1 was completed.

Below are some recommendations we have suggested to the surgery, you can find out more by reading our full report linked below.

Recommendations

  • Can the process of how appointments are made be made clear to patients and explain how appointments that are urgent, non-urgent and referrals etc. are managed.
  • People who have ongoing conditions and need regular appointments needs monitoring so they don’t miss ongoing care and their situations don’t get worse than they have to be, leading to more urgent appointments.
  • Promoting other options for people could reduce pressure on GP practices, such as using local pharmacies and NHS 111 who have a number of allocated emergency appointments.
  • The practice should consider how the appointment process could be made easier for people who work.
  • Could booking online appointments be made easier/explained to patients so the phoneline is not as busy?
  • If the staff team and their roles were explained to the patients people would be more comfortable to go to other staff in the surgery rather than thinking they need a GP.

[Receiving a] letter is better for me, the telephone is getting confusing as there’s too many appointments.
