Healthwatch County Durham visited Acorn Grange Care Home to understand residents’ experiences and assess the quality of care provided. Overall, residents and families described the home as warm, welcoming and supportive, with staff praised for their friendliness, communication and person-centred approach to care.

While feedback about the social environment, activities and food was largely positive, the visit also identified some practical challenges, including staffing pressures and environmental limitations such as accessibility issues within the building. The report highlights these experiences and sets out recommendations to support improvements in areas including staffing stability, activities for residents with advanced dementia and ongoing engagement with families.

The provider has committed to addressing the recommendations and continuing to improve the quality of care for residents.
